Review: Irresistibly Wicked by Melissa Foster (The Wickeds: Dark Knights at Bayside #7)
Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.
We're back in Bayside with the seventh novel in the Melissa Foster-penned series, The Wickeds: Dark Knights at Bayside, and with Irresistibly Wicked, she gives us Zander Wicked's story. Yup, that Zander--also known by his more formal but less used name, Alexander, the guy who wasn't looking to settle down anytime soon and was happy with how he was leading his life, working for the family-owned business, Cape Renovation, being part of the Dark Knights, and doing whatever he wanted during his free time. But when a pickup truck collides with his Challenger, thirty-year-old Zander also ends up crashing into the life of someone from his past. The twenty-four-year-old EMT who rescues him turns out to be a girl whose path intersected with his for a brief period of time, marking them both. Three months after she saves him, Zander meets Shauna Flores yet again. Only this time, it seems that he could be the one to help her.
Melissa Foster doesn't write stories that skim the surface. Her characters always have such depth to them that resistance would be futile when it comes to becoming emotionally invested in them and their happily-ever-afters. With Zander and Shauna, there was that extra bit of intensity involved. They had an agreement, and while it was inevitable that a line was going to get crossed regardless of any and all resistance thrown its way, I liked that these two actually felt like they also had this great friendship aside from all the non-platonic stuff. Aside from the fake relationship romance part of the book, I quite liked the side story regarding Shauna's best friend, Brian. I was both frustrated and empathetic when it came to him, and I applaud how everything regarding him and his struggles was resolved. I'm forever a fan of authors who make you think AND feel, and Melissa Foster did just that with Irresistibly Wicked. 4.5 stars!
