Review: UnRaveled by K. Bromberg
Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.
UnRaveled, stylized with the "R" capitalized alongside the first letter of the title, is a dark romance novella by K. Bromberg, and it was previously published as part of Bend, a multi-author anthology from the Erotica Consortium in May of 2014. I remember reading the anthology, although I don't have a review for it--and yes, I searched this blog, which I started back in June 2014, a month after the book had its limited release. All that being said, this was a quick read and had a story and characters worth revisiting.
Lilian and Anderson Archer have been together for two decades, married for one and a half of those. There was a time when everything in their relationship was fun and spontaneous, romance and sex relished in equal measure. Now, they're parents to two boys, and life has gotten busier, with priorities shifting, and their marriage becomes the casualty. Maybe time together in Italy will help Lily and Anderson work on the ties that bind them, but it won't be her husband who'll unravel her--it will be her captor.
Confession time: when I first read this story over a decade ago, dark romance was part of my reading rotation. Fast forward over eleven years later, and I admittedly don't read dark romance as much as I used to. So, it took a bit for more for me to re-acclimate to this particular romance subgenre. But like I said earlier, UnRaveled was a worthwhile re-read, with K. Bromberg's writing pulling me in yet again. I may have known how it was going to end, but that didn't take away at all from this four-starred novella.
