Review: Dirty D-Man by Mira Lyn Kelly (Slayers Hockey #7)

Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Wordsmith Publicity.

Mira Lyn Kelly's Slayers Hockey series is like the gift that keeps on giving, and I'm here for every single bit of it. Dirty D-Man is the seventh novel--but eighth overall book--in the series, and it's a falling-for-your-best-friend's-sibling romance. Piper Boerboom has had a crush on her older brother's best friend since she was twelve and Grant Bowie was sixteen. They had their own friendship, one that she cherished. But things changed between them, the distance growing even more once he was drafted into the National Hockey League. Ten years on, though, there's no place for Bowie to go when he realizes that not only is Piper his new roommate, but her brother won't be around to serve as a buffer--a reminder for him to stay away from the one girl that he's never allowed himself to fall for. Sharing space together may be what finally breaks this defenseman's defenses.

Ah, who doesn't love it when the guy the girl is crushing on just happens to have been crushing on her, too? It's complicated, of course, due to the fact that Piper is Boomer's younger sister--Boomer who is the best friend who is more like his brother and whose family has always welcomed Bowie with open arms. But gah, once Bowie admitted himself that resistance was futile, he was all in when it came to Piper. These two were irresistibly captivating, and I devoured their love story in one sitting because just like Bowie, I was all in with these two. Admittedly, there were moments I may have been tempted to smack Boomer upside the head, but I get the overprotective nature siblings have. Plus his book is up next, and I kinda-sorta-maybe hope Mira Lyn Kelly pairs him up with someone who'll give him a run for his money. Aside from their romance, I appreciated the author also touching on the subjects of friendship, family, and being part of a team. As always, the Slayers Hockey series slayed, and Dirty D-Man receives five stars.
