Review: Anything for Love by Melissa Foster (Pleasant Hill - Oak Falls #2)

Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.

I'm not quite ready to declare the Pleasant Hill - Oak Falls series as my favorite from bestselling author Melissa Foster--that distinction still belongs to her Harborside Nights series--but this new series of hers is sitting quite comfortably in the second spot. Anything for Love is the second novel from the series and it's the story of Beau Braden and Charlotte Sterling. With no family left, Charlotte decides to move into her family's mountainside inn, better known as Sterling House. Being on her own is nothing new, but the solitude helps her write the stories that had fictional men who were above and beyond any of the real-life ones Charlotte has come across. When she meets Beau, however, she wonders if maybe she's finally come across a man with integrity. But Beau is a man with a great deal of personal pain and guilt weighing down on his shoulders. He may know how to make a house a home with his renovation skills, but there may be no fixing his broken heart. That is, until he gets to know Charlotte better. Could this finally be their shot at happiness or will the ghosts of the past come back to haunt their future?

Le sigh. This is what a contemporary romance novel should read like! I already know that Melissa Foster is more than adept when it comes writing fictional love stories that touch upon the importance of family and friends, but I admit that some resonate with more than others. One of those books just happens to be this new release of hers. I loved the back stories that Beau and Charlotte had, making it easy for me to become invested in their becoming a couple. My heart went out to both, but more so with Beau because of the heartache that he still carries with him after the loss that he endured. These two had really strong chemistry, and this may sound weird, but I actually liked that there were complexities interspersed with them getting to their happily-ever-after. After all, the things that often matter most are the ones that you really have to work for, as was the case for these two. Foster did a truly fantastic job weaving this beautiful love story against such a picturesque backdrop, and with a strong cast of supporting characters to back them, Beau and Charlotte's tale in Anything for Love easily gets five out of five stars. ♥
