Review: Reckless by Skye Jordan (Renegades #1)

Reckless is the first book in the Renegades series by Skye Jordan, the pseudonym of bestselling author Joan Swan. Lexi and Jax are both about focusing on what matters--work--and they're each the epitome of the kind of person they're supposed to be avoiding. When they find themselves in the same airport, on the same plane, and then in the same city, are they willing to throw caution to the wind and be reckless?

Lexi LaCroix is a couture wedding gown designer who has achieved a fair amount of success for her beautiful dresses. She doesn't have much time for anything else outside of work and can't seem to find actual motivation to get involved with someone right now. She sees a man who could be the poster child for all things "bad boy" and, on a whim, decides to do something she'd never contemplated until that very moment.

Jax Chamberlin is living the life he wants, no longer being held down by the demands of his former career. Then and now, he's had too many women wanting him in bed and asking for favors afterwards for him to know that he needs to stay away from the overly ambitious type. When he receives an anonymous text while waiting for his flight, he decides to reply, leading to flirtatious messages and much more than he expected.

From sexting to what was supposed to be an anonymous one-night stand, Lexi and Jax find themselves wanting more. The thing is, Lexi knows that Jax is exactly the kind of man she doesn't need in her life, believing that she needs structure and someone safe. Jax, without knowing exactly what Lexi looks like in the beginning, is drawn to her personality and sexiness but, once learning that she's drop dead gorgeous and filled with ambition, can't help but be wary that she's just like every other woman he's been with.

I liked the original spin of this contemporary romance. The flirting via text and then Jax liking her after their conversations together rather than the way she looks were creative touches. The attraction and chemistry are there but they both have trust issues and have both worked too hard to get to where they are in their lives for them to risk it all for someone of the opposite sex...right? ^.^ I loved that these two couldn't stay away from each other, no matter how hard they tried.

Reckless was and still is a freebie for Kindle and Nook. You can get a copy for your Kindle here or a copy for your Nook  here. For a book that's available for nary a cent, this was a good and satisfying read. It has the romance, sex, humor, and drama in a creatively written story and characters that are hot and irresistible. It gets 4.5 stars from me. ♥

Date read: 14 September 2014
