Review: Last First Kiss by Carrie Ann Ryan (Montgomery Ink Legacy #5)

Five books in and Carrie Ann Ryan's Montgomery Ink Legacy series continues to be entertaining. The fifth novel, Last First Kiss, is a single parent romance with a hint of suspense to it. This is Daisy Montgomery-Knight's story, Daisy being the oldest daughter of Adrienne Montgomery and Mace Knight (Fallen Ink, book one in the Montgomery Ink: Colorado Springs series) and one of the owners of Montgomery Security. While attending the wedding of friends, Daisy meets a gorgeous Brit who tickles her fancy, if you know what I mean. Insert cheesy wink here. One night, first names only, and no expectations--that was what she and Hugh agreed on. So, imagine her shock when it turns out that Montgomery Security's newest hire is a British guy named Hugh Hendrix. Yes, THAT Hugh. And it turns out that he has a five-year-old daughter, Lucy, and he had his own security business in New York. Working together is sure to be complicated. Deciding to start dating AND dealing with a potential stalker? This could be life-altering.

I'm a sucker for a single parent romance. Becoming a couple is one thing, but becoming an instant family is certainly a whole different situation. The fact that there were similarities between Daisy's situation with her birth mother and Lucy's own biological mother allowed for common ground, although Hugh's precocious daughter was simply too easy to love. Hugh and Daisy's romance was far less complicated than I'd originally expected it to be, and this was a surprise that I'm not exactly going to complain about because it was a nice change of pace. I enjoyed Hugh and Daisy's story, although I must admit that Hugh didn't really come off as British to me. There was a pinch of Britishisms thrown in, but overall, Hugh felt more American than anyone across the pond. That aside, the romance and suspense were more than enough for me to be quite satisfied. I'm giving Last First Kiss four stars and look forward to Kane's book!

Review: The Room Mate by Kendall Ryan (Roommates #1)

I do believe I've found myself a new book boyfriend to drool, erm, swoon over in Cannon Roth, male main character in bestselling author Kendall Ryan's Roommates series starter, The Room Mate . This had a familiar romance trope--falling-for-your-best-friend's-sibling--and yet I didn't find it boring or tiresome in any way. This has both heart and heat as well as lighthearted humor along with a bit of heart-tugging angst and it's headlined by a couple of main characters that I was totally smitten with from the moment Paige got a pretty good idea of just how much her best friend's younger brother Cannon had grown up from the nerdy boy who followed them around like a puppy when they were kids.
