Review: Christmas Cupid by Ilsa Madden-Mills

A holiday romance set the week of Christmas and involves Cupid and is published a couple of days post-Halloween and right on All Souls Day? Why the heck not?! Christmas Cupid is penned by Ilsa Madden-Mills, one of my go-to authors, and I've yet to go wrong having her newest book in my Kindle. This was a cute read involving an injured hockey player and a boot designer who just happens to be younger sister of the hockey player's team captain and close friend who don't get off on the right foot but are stuck together in one secluded but cutesy cabin in the middle of a historic snowstorm.

Kyler Blanchette and Iris Miller, both twenty-eight, both need a break from the reality of the current state of their respective lives. Time away in a cabin right before Christmas sounds like a pretty good deal, especially since everything was already taken care of in advance. Of course, Kyler assumed he was going to be alone, and ditto for Iris (and her dog, Rob, who is actually Puck, but you'll have to read the book to figure out what the heck I'm talking about). Maybe it was fate or a mistake or some super sneaky matchmaking, but it may take hell freezing over for these two to actually get together--or maybe just an epic snowstorm will thaw them both out and possibly get things totally heated up.

For a quick read, Ilsa Madden-Mills' new novella didn't skimp on the details nor did the pacing feel rushed. Both Kyler and Iris had a stubborn streak to them, and they were trying to deal with upheaval from their respective lives--Kyler with his professional one, and Iris with her personal one. It took a bit for them to own up to their attraction, but it was clear they had chemistry. Iris's brother (and Kyler's teammate), Kyler, may have only made an appearance at the beginning and end of the book, but he was a definite standout of a supporting character, and Puck (because who the heck names their dog "Rob"?!) was such an adorable scene-stealer. All in all, Christmas Cupid was a four-starred read.

Review: The Room Mate by Kendall Ryan (Roommates #1)

I do believe I've found myself a new book boyfriend to drool, erm, swoon over in Cannon Roth, male main character in bestselling author Kendall Ryan's Roommates series starter, The Room Mate . This had a familiar romance trope--falling-for-your-best-friend's-sibling--and yet I didn't find it boring or tiresome in any way. This has both heart and heat as well as lighthearted humor along with a bit of heart-tugging angst and it's headlined by a couple of main characters that I was totally smitten with from the moment Paige got a pretty good idea of just how much her best friend's younger brother Cannon had grown up from the nerdy boy who followed them around like a puppy when they were kids.
