Review: My So-Called Sex Life by Lauren Blakely (How to Date #1)

Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.

My So-Called Sex Life is the first novel in Lauren Blakely's How to Date series, and if you're a longtime reader of hers, then you know this is the eagerly anticipated story headlined by Hazel Valentine and Axel Huxley. Yes, THAT Hazel and Axel--bestselling authors (Hazel a romance novelist and Axel a romantic thriller storyteller) who used to be friends and writing partners before becoming what they are today: enemies who can't stand being around one another...and who may be harboring some super secret romantic and rather thrilling feelings for and towards each other. The tension between them in all those other books they were notable supporting characters in is finally coming to a head!

Hazel and Axel are a romantic pairing that brought with them a whole lot of zing and the weight of expectation. After all, the bits and pieces we got of them in previous novels stoked our curiosity time and again. I'm happy to report, though, that these two were much more than I could have imagined. I loved the banter and bickering, with all the button pushing feeling more like foreplay than anything else. Figuring out what went wrong in the past while finding their footing in the present while traveling through Europe made this a life-changing journey for both. Five stars go to My So-Called Sex Life.
