Review: Hockey with Benefits by Tijan

Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Valentine PR.

When I heard that Tijan was going to release a new adult romance that was also a hockey romance, I may have squealed in excitement. Hockey with Benefits pretty much gives you an idea what awaits you between the covers. Cruz Styles is a college junior and star player for his school's hockey team; Mara Daniels is a freshman who just happens to have a not-really-friend-with-benefits arrangement with Cruz. Neither one is looking to be tied down in a committed relationship, so their current setup works well for both of them. No complications, no issues, no worries. Then everything started to become complicated, and issues began to crop up, filling both Mara and Cruz with things to worry about. When the agreement they made falls apart, will Mara look to escape her feelings for Cruz, and will Cruz be able to make time for Mara in his busy life?

This was a story that sunk its proverbial teeth into my heart and refused to let go. I'm familiar with Tijan's writing, and yes, there are always quite a few characters that are present in her books, some of whom have already gotten their happily-ever-afters in previous releases. Going into Mara and Cruz's story, I already came across the former in Rich Prick, a new adult romance Tijan released in June of 2020, so maybe that's a title new readers could check out before (or after) diving into this one. There's a lot of angst that goes with the romance, but I'm not one to complain about angst because the more the merrier (as long as it isn't drama for the sake of drama). If you're a longtime reader of Tijan's, expect cameos and pop-ups of familiar and well-loved "faces". Overall, Hockey with Benefits met all of my expectations, and it receives 4.5 stars.
