Review: The Senator's Secret by K.C. Wells (Dreamspun Desires #17)

Could a story get any cuter than this one?! Gah! Major squee-worthy moments abound in The Senator's Secret, a part of Dreamspinner Press's Dreamspun Desires collection of books. I couldn't stop myself from grinning like an idiot and if the Fag Hags Anonymous group Becky Watson, secretary to State Senator Samuel Dalton, did exist, I'd be as much of a card-carrying member as her. This book had a fantastically witty and wacky cast of characters, from main characters Sam Dalton and Gary Mason to their hilarious band of supporters that include Sam's parents--especially his mom--and Sam's core campaign staff. The Senator's Secret was the highlight of my day, and it's definitely an M/M book I would happily recommend.

At thirty-three, Senator Samuel Dalton's political career is on the right track. He's young, promising, and has already spent the past six years serving as one of North Carolina's state senators. During an election year, his Republican opponent uses an entirely innocent moment to stir controversy and have Sam's constituents question his integrity. Not only could Sam be forced to publicly acknowledge his sexuality, but thanks to some members of his staff, he may find himself unexpectedly engaged to the man he shared the now talked about moment with. Can he and twenty-something volunteer and soon-to-be veterinary school student Gary Mason convince voters they're in love, or can they convince each other this isn't real?

I adored reading about the progression and evolution of the relationship between Sam and Gary. They were pushed into a situation neither one was wholly prepared for, but they learned to not only trust one another and become friends, but the forced closeness in proximity was a blessing in disguise because they really did get to know each other quite well. There were sweet interactions, but I must admit that it was the lighthearted and funny ones that I loved most. These two got into some silly moments, and then there were those one-liners from Sam's mom and the schemes Curtis Tucker, Josh Mapleton, and Becky Watson came up with. I loved every single thing about this K.C. Wells creation. Five stars for The Senator's Secret. ♥
