Review: Rock with You by Rachel Lacey (Risking It All #0.5)

Rock with You is a prequel novella in the new Risking It All series from author Rachel Lacey and introduces readers to the small town of Haven, North Carolina and a few of its residents who find love. This first story is about Carly Taylor, owner and resident baker of A Piece of Cake, which was passed on to her by her grandmother. While Carly's baked goodies are sinfully addictive, her business isn't faring as well as it used to, what with profits down after her grandmother retired and Carly took over. But she's distracted from her financial woes by the appearance of a gorgeous guy who looks remarkably like rock star Sam Weiss. When it turns out that it is indeed Sam, Carly can't believe that he's actually in her bakery and that he's flirting with her. Sam, whose last album didn't quite meet high expectations, is in search of his muse and he thinks he's found it in Carly. When an ice storm leaves both of them stranded together, their attraction reaches new heights, but is this merely a weekend-long fling or the beginning of far more?

This was a quickie read but one that touched upon the fantasy many women have of their favorite singer suddenly showing up when they least expect it and falling for them rather nicely. There's a spark between Carly and Sam from the moment they spy each other in A Piece of Cake and circumstances made sure that they had the opportunity to take that spark and have it become something fiery and intense. While Haven is introduced to in this short story, we don't really get to meet a whole lot of other people in the small North Carolina town. This really was all about Carly and Sam and if we're looking at it from the angle of just the story itself, it was an entertaining read and one that works for those who like to keep their romances short but sweet with a hint of steam. I would have liked to have had the main characters interact with the other people from Haven so that we could have met more of the characters that'll be featured in the full-length novels, but overall, the romance itself was satisfying enough. Four stars for Rock with You. ♥
