Review: Roommates with Benefits by Nicole Williams

Roommates with Benefits is bestselling author Nicole Williams's latest release and it has a romantic comedy feel to it, what with two main characters who end up becoming roommates and unlikely friends with an underlying attraction that they're only able to ignore for a short while. When Hayden Hayes goes looking for a place to rent, her expectations are pretty high, thanks to what was described to her by her potential roommate. But Soren Decker may have oversold the apartment he lives in. Pretty soon, Hayden's other high expectations come plummeting down to earth, but then no one said that becoming a model was easy. Maybe grinning and bearing it with her hot roommate will be good practice for her. There's certainly no ignoring Soren, not when he's constantly in her space, reminding her of just how much of a distraction his presence can be. When they give in to the temptation that is one another, it was supposed to be nothing more than them being roomies with bennies. She's got a promising modeling career to think of and he's on the cusp of a pro baseball career. But can they have more?

Nicole Williams rarely misses, as far as I'm concerned, but there was something about this particular book that simply didn't click with me. It felt as if it was a case of "much ado about nothing," particularly on Hayden's part. Soren was such an enjoyable male main character to get to know, so Hayden making him seem as if he was encroaching on her and in her space felt far-reaching, especially since I suspect it had a great deal to do with her having the hots for her roommate. She was, if I'm being honest here, extremely naive and full of herself. Seriously, did she think she was the next Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss, or Gisele Bündchen? She had lofty expectations and it was as if reality smacked her in the face and instead of smacking it back and showing what she was made of, she took her frustration out on poor Soren. Sure, she made up for her less than stellar behavior, but by then, I was simply wishing Soren would was with someone more worthy. Sigh. I'm giving Roommates with Benefits three stars. ♥
