Review: Flash Daddy by Daddy X

Well, this book was a first times fifty-five. I had never encountered flash fiction before, but if I thought novellas and short stories were quickie reads, clearly they've been beat by these tidbits in Flash Daddy. This collection of flash fiction written by Daddy X has varying degrees of heat, from the barely simmering to the sizzling to the downright scorching. The selection is varied as well in terms of story line though there's quite a bit that had bites of humor in them that I liked. The one theme that does string all these stories together is the fact that they're all flash fiction.

I confess that it took me several stories to get used to the whole flash fiction setup. Some of the stories would end abruptly or leave me hanging. Heck, there were a few that had me going "Huh?" because it was is if I missing something. Once I set aside my expectations of these stories having a semblance to my usual, longer fictional fare, I was able to enjoy the collection as a whole, although I admit that the ones that brought a smile to my face or even inspired a laugh or two out of me with their offbeat humor were my definite favorites among the fifty-five.

I appreciated the opportunity to experience something new and I certainly admire the fact that the author seems to be more than adept at writing. I've always been a wordy kind of writer, as evidenced by my essays way back when I was a student to the length of my emails to this day, so the fact that Daddy X can whip up stories as short as the ones here and yet keep these fifty-five titillating tales entertaining deserves kudos. I'm not sure if I'll ever purposely go out of my way to read flash fiction, but I'm glad I had the chance to do so with Flash Daddy. 3.5 stars. ♥
