Review: Falling for the Right Brother by Kerri Carpenter (Saved by the Blog #1)

Note: This ARC was provided by the author via Tasty Book Tours in exchange for an honest review.

Kerri Carpenter isn't a new-to-me author; however, it's been about a year since I last read something from her and Falling for the Right Brother reminded me of why I enjoyed her other books in the past. Carpenter gives readers a fairly lighthearted love story set in a small town that has a long memory, a matchmaking blogger whose identity is secret, and two people trying to find their place in each other's lives when they unexpectedly fall in love. Elle Owens was eighteen when she had declared her affections for Jasper Dumont, but a decade later, he isn't the Dumont that she finds herself falling for. It's now none other than his older brother, Cameron, who has her heart.

A video forced Elle Owens to leave her hometown of Bayside, Virginia ten years ago, but she's returned to be with her ailing father. She's no longer the shy, mousy high school senior she once was, having done her fair share of growing up while attending college abroad. When she encounters the older brother of the boy who was her first love, Elle can clearly see she isn't the only one who's changed. Thirty-two-year-old Cam Dumont no longer has the beard that shielded his face and he seems interested in her. But Elle isn't staying in Bayside, and Cam has no plans of leaving. Then there's the small matter of keeping this all secret, but how long can that last in a town like theirs?

I really liked this series starter! I think having the blog posts of the anonymous Bayside Blogger was a good way to begin the chapters and her postscript at the end of the book had me even more curious as to who she actually was. Elle--don't call her "Ellie"!--made her fair share of missteps, but she was a likable heroine, and being with Cam helped her realize a few things, especially with as far as where she wanted to be in her life. The whole thing about having feelings for Jasper ten years ago and having feelings for Cam now didn't play out the way I was expecting and thank goodness for that because I love when an author manages to surprise me and keep me on my ten toes!

Cam was such an easy male main character to like. He knew what and who he wanted and while he had certain feelings of guilt for choices he had made in the past, he still chose to stay the course and stand by his decisions. I also liked Jasper and am looking forward to seeing who he's going to be partnered with when his time comes to share his story. As to how our mystery blogger will play matchmaker yet again? Well, I'm sure she'll keep things more than interesting once more. Falling for the Right Brother was a great start to the Saved by the Blog series, and if you're looking for a small town romance with it's own creative twist, give this one a whirl. It gets four stars. ♥
