Review: Action by Quinn Anderson (Murmur Inc. #2)

Note: This ARC was provided by Riptide Publishing in exchange for an honest review.

Action isn't the first book I've read that had the porn industry as its backdrop--and yes, all the books I've read covering the theme of porn stars falling for one another were all in the M/M romance genre--but this is the first one that carried that fine balance between romance and the realities of working in the adult entertainment industry and still maintained a good bit of humor. I adored the first Murmur Inc. novel, Hotline, and now Quinn Anderson has taken things up a notch or two with the second book in the series, giving readers twenty-year-old Pete Grilflow, also known as Jaden Prime, a reluctant porn star and power bottom working his way to his college degree, and twenty-three-year-old Evan Darko, who is still fairly new to porn but has taken to it like a duck to water and uses the name Kyle Darko as his on-screen moniker. There's a palpable connection between the two of them from the get-go, and Evan could very well be who Pete needs to get his mojo back on-screen. Soon, it becomes clear that Evan is inspiring thoughts and feelings in Pete that aren't about work. Is this reel love or the real thing?

Ah, poor neurotic Pete! The young man was all a tizzy when he met Evan, but that spark between them was undeniable all throughout this story. Never in my life would I have thought that telling someone your real name would be so damn romantic. I liked seeing Pete go from the hesitant porn star to a man who was finding his footing and exposing more of his true self to Evan--which to him is way scarier than showcasing his body on-screen. Instead of life imitating art, this was a case of art imitating life, and yes, there were probably times wherein these two wondered if they were blurring that line between the art and life, but it sure as hell was fun watching them figure things out. They were different in numerous ways, but they seemed to both be very heavily invested in whatever was developing between the two of them, and can I just say that those times when confident Evan became shy Evan were adorable? These two were also backed by a group of supporting characters that made Action an even more fun, lighthearted, five-starred read. Fingers crossed for more from the Murmur Inc. universe! ♥
