Review: Blindside Beauty by Lex Martin (Varsity Dads #6)

Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Candi Kane PR.

Blindside Beauty is the sixth AND final novel in the Varsity Dads new adult football romance from Lex Martin. The bittersweet feels were alive and all, as is often the case when a series that I've enjoyed and followed from start to finish comes to an end, but Martin made sure to close things out on a high with Abigail Dawson and Nick Silva's story. Yup, you read that right--Abigail Dawson, aka Ezra Thomas's ex. If you're familiar with the series, then you know who the heck Ezra is. After everything he put Abby through, suffice it to say that the girl deserved her own happily-ever-after, and Nick was the guy who was going to deliver...if only he could figure out how to do that while also ensuring that he got drafted and continue to provide for his four-year-old daughter, Hazel. Nick knows what it's like to love someone only to lose them unexpectedly; Abby has experienced betrayal and has sworn off jocks, especially quarterbacks. However, love looks like it's about to blindside this single dad and his beauty of a nanny.

Abby and Nick were the pairing that I didn't know I needed, but when I got it, I couldn't get enough! Funnily enough, they were connected by Ezra, ex-fiancé to Abby and ex-QB rival to Nick and all-around jerk. Talk about being strange bedfellows, but that's how Fate works, I guess. Theirs was a slow burn romance that allowed readers to see them forge a true-blue friendship. Yes, they had chemistry, and yes, they were attracted to each other, but Nick had lost his first love when she gave birth to their daughter, Hazel, and Abby had her heart trampled on in humiliating fashion, so having them take their time and building trust was important. I also loved seeing how great of a dad Nick was to Hazel, and how Abby became such a strong and caring presence that the little girl needed in her life. This was a fairly lighthearted read with a smidgen of angst, delivering a lovely series ender that highlighted finding love again, the bond of friendship, and how not all families are about blood. Five stars go to Blindside Beauty.
