Review: Twisted Knight by K. Bromberg (Tangled Hearts #1)
Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by Bramble.
Three things I know to be true:
- K. Bromberg is an author whose writing I have happily read and will continue to happily read.
- Revenge story lines, especially when it's one main character setting his sights on the family the other main character has ties to, are deliciously fraught with tension when done right.
- Cliffhangers are evil. Period. Particularly when I have zero clue that the book I've been reading has a sequel, and now, I need to wait till its release.
When I heard that K. Bromberg didn't just have a new book being traditionally published, but that it was the first in a series, I was giddy with excitement. I'm not picky when it comes to how a book is published, i.e. I'm good with either independently (self-) published books or those that are released by publishing houses. Bromberg has already established herself as an author who writes romances that hook you within the pages and keep you engaged till the end.
Twisted Knight, the first in her Tangled Hearts series and published by Tor Trade's Bramble imprint, was written unsurprisingly well, was filled with tension--sexual and otherwise--that had eagerly going from one page to the next, and yes, it had a cliffhanger that I never saw coming because, well, there was no mention of there being one beforehand.
Don't get me wrong; I'm not a reader who steers away from books with cliffhangers. I understand why authors implement them. I would have just appreciated a heads-up. I'm not known for my patience, but I trust that the author will reward my barely existent patience and make the wait (for however long it may be since there is no information as to when the second book will be released) worthwhile. Four stars for Twisted Knight.
