Review: "Hate F*@k: Part One" by Ainsley Booth (The Horus Group #1)

Hailey Reid and Cole Parker know they should keep their distance from one another. Hailey doesn't like being bossed around by the man who's trying to manage the clusterfuck her father and now her older sister have gotten themselves into. Cole is very much aware that Hailey is the daughter of their company's client and he knows that he pushes her buttons when he tries to manage her. But try as they might, there's much more going on between them beneath the surface, and they can't avoid it for much longer.

Hailey wishes she could distance herself from the scandals that have rocked her family but that's what happens when you carry a family name that's gossiped about relentlessly. She refuses to rely on her family's money and has been living independently but she's called in to perform her familial duty to be there for her family in the middle of one crisis after another. Working with The Horus Group, specifically Cole Parker, their CFO (aka the Chief Fuck-You Officer) was something she did not sign up for.

Cole is an ex-Navy SEAL and has seen and done things that have hardened him as a human being, but all that training and experience never prepared him for the likes of one Hailey Dashford Reid. She's nothing like the spoiled women who come from money he's come across. She doesn't feel entitled nor does she expect people to serve her hand and foot. She's a good person...and he wants her...badly. He's been trying to stay away from her but the temptation that is Hailey is too much for even him to resist.

As they begin to allow themselves to give in to their desires, Hailey sees that there's more to Cole than the cold, detached man that he appears to be. As much as Cole wants something more with Hailey, he's more than aware of the kind of life he's led and continues to lead. He doesn't want her to be touched by the darkness that seems to shadow him. When he's called away after their first night together, Hailey is left wondering if his moves to get closer to her were all because of an unthinkable ulterior motive.

Okay, I knew going in that this was going to end in a cliffhanger. After all, it was only 80 pages long and was the first in a three-part serial of the first story in The Horus Group series by author Ainsley Booth. Still, the frustration was there, as is the case with all good stories that end in cliffhangers, and though there was no hate, I did end up saying f*@k after reading Hate F*@k: Part One. I'm definitely hooked, my curiosity skyrocketing, and now I really, really, REALLY need more of Hailey Reed and Cole Parker.

This book was more than the usual good girl and bad boy falling for one another. It had a mystery thriller aspect to it that I very much appreciate. Of course, it had a lot of steam but it had a story that left me wanting even more and characters that were worth knowing. Hate F*@k: Part One set me up but in a totally good way because it opened the door to an entire tale that looks like it's worth investing the time and patience in. March seriously can't come soon enough! This scorcher gets 4.5 stars. ♥
