Review: Crave: Part One by E.K. Blair (Crave #1)
Note: This ARC was provided by the author via Give Me Books Promotions in exchange for an honest review.
I bought a box set written by E.K. Blair a couple or so years ago and a series starter last year when both were on sale (I'm a self-confessed 99-cent one-click addict and book hoarder, so yes, I haven't gotten around to reading these books! Sorry!), BUT my first ever read from the author is her latest release, Crave: Part One. This was a story about seventeen-year-old Adaline and eighteen-year-old Kason. They go to the same high school, Ady being the new girl whose transfer has been noticed by quite a few boys, Kason included. She lives a comfortable life, and he's the boy who cleans their pool, so think rich girl-poor boy. But this story has an added twist to it. While Ady and Kason have their share of teen angst and the ever-familiar host of issues kids their age have to deal with, Kason is also saddled with an addiction that leaves him craving, and it's a craving that not even Ady's love can ever satisfy.
This is a young adult (YA) read but with far more mature themes, the main one having to do with what it is Kason craves--his particular kind of addiction--and how it affects his supposedly blossoming love story with Adaline. I won't mention what the addiction is, but what I will say is that this particular kind of addiction was one that I felt an almost eighteen-year-old girl was never going to be equipped to manage. Instead of helping him, what she was doing felt more like she was enabling him, and this is what leads me to reiterating my point about her not being mature enough to deal with Kason's cravings. This also ends on a cliffhanger, one that I expected because it is part of a duet, and it's a doozy of a cliffy. If you're the kind who hates those kinds of endings, you may want to hold off until the second part is released in October. Crave: Part One left me torn, so I'm giving it 3.5 stars out of five stars. ♥
