Review: Resistance Training by Kayley Loring
Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.
Resistance Training is a reworked novel that was previously released--and unpublished--by Kayley Loring. I'll be honest, I have zero clue what this book once was, and while I would usually care about stuff like this, it's been a stressful month, and I desperately needed a distraction. This romantic comedy read about second chances and former best friends who have a slew of unresolved thoughts, feelings, and issues (plus bonus points for the scene-stealing fur babies)? It gave me something else to focus on for a few hours, and I am all the more grateful for my love of reading and this author is one of my favorite go-tos.
When Vivian Sparks's older sister, Aubrey, gets engaged, she tells Vivian that she's hired a trainer to help her younger sister to get back in shape for the wedding in three months, Vivian had no idea that said trainer would be none other than Bradley Mitchell--her high school best friend and the biggest regret of her life. He ghosted her after she broke his heart before graduation, and eight years later, it seems that he has no intention of catching up or rekindling their friendship. Brad--now known as Mitch--has changed physically, but parts of the boy Vivian once knew so well still remain beneath the hotness and muscles. And soon enough, even with all the training, these two former besties will learn that resistance is futile.
This rom-com provided an escape from stuff I've been dealing with this month. I laughed, I swooned, and I enjoyed the heck out of everything that Kayley Loring had to offer between the proverbial covers. Vivian and Brad were meant to be, but that didn't mean that making it to their happily-ever-after was going to be free of obstacles and challenges. They honestly had to get out of their own way, which was easier said than done, especially given the fact that Brad seemed to believe that avoidance was the best way to handle things back when they were teenagers. Sure, they lost eight years together, but I think of it as being an opportunity for the to grow up and into themselves. And hey, making up for lost time was part of the fun. With a charming cast of characters and great story, Resistance Training is a five-starred read.
