Review: Over a Barrel by Layla Reyne (Table for Two #3)
Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.
Over a Barrel is the third novella in Layla Reyne's Table for Two series, and it's the first one that features an F/F romance. While this can be read as a standalone, those familiar with the series will recognize some of the characters, and certain details may prove to be spoilery. The main characters here are Annaliese Rosin (56) and Carrington Clarke (43). Al is the ex-wife of Ezra Rosin (Blue Plate Special, book two in the Table for Two series), and she's finding herself drawn to the alluring redhead at the airport. When they end up becoming seat mates on the flight to New Orleans, it's like kismet... But it turns out that CC is counsel for the party involved in negotiations with Al's client. Sexy time is going to have to wait, but will complications in the boardroom stall their journey to the bedroom?
This book surpassed my expectations, but then I shouldn't have been all that surprised by Layla Reyne proving once again that she isn't just great at writing M/M romances, but she's pretty darn fantastic in giving readers F/F romances that bring the heart AND the heat. I liked that while Al and CC shared an instant connection, there were a number of complications that they needed to deal with. This allowed for the two main characters to combine that lust with potentially something more lasting. Characters from the other books make appearances, but never took the spotlight away from Al and CC. I loved how this story flowed and the characters developed, which is why Over a Barrel gets 4.5 stars.
