Review: On the Shore by Laura Pavlov (Cottonwood Cove #3)

Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.

Readers get to make the much anticipated return to Cottonwood Cove, and Laura Pavlov couldn't get us here fast enough! I'm a wee bit addicted to this place and its residents, particularly the Reynolds family. We've got the next sibling to make their way to their happily-ever-after, but their meet-cute with the person they're paired with sure created one heck of a bump they would have to get over. The Reynolds in question is Brinkley, a sports journalist and I think she's in her mid to late twenties and possibly the middle child, or at least one of the middle children. She's recently lost her job, and while she isn't going to miss her lecherous boss, the events that led up to her firing were humiliating, to say the least. That's because her termination was triggered by one ornery professional football player demanding she be escorted out--the same athlete who not only happens to be her family's favorite, but is now currently in her hometown for several weeks in order to lay low while deciding what to do next with his football career. Cottonwood Cove may not be big enough of a town for both of them, but getting up close and personal may very well lead to these two cozying up, and maybe even unexpectedly falling for one another...

I am a hundred percent Team Brinks and Links, erm, I mean, Linc! These two were absolutely entertaining AND endearing. Seeing them go from individuals who made it blatantly obvious that there was no love lost between them to reluctant friends and allies and then actually falling in lust and love with each other was part and parcel of why I enjoyed the heck out of reading this book. Brinkley and Lincoln had to build up the trust and respect, and they owned up to any mistakes and misconceptions they may have had about one another. And the communication? Gah! They not only talked to each other, they listened! That may not seem like a big deal, but if you've read as many romance books as I have, then the whole lack of communication thing is well worn and can get tiresome after awhile. Of course, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Brinkley's family. Yes, they were the comic relief, but they also brought a lot of heart to the story. They were protective of each other, but they rarely hesitated to give one of them grief for whatever. All in all, On the Shore scored a touchdown and has me excited for Finn's story! Five stars!
