Review: Someday by Willow Aster (Landmark Mountain #2)

Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.

Talk about my expectations being surpassed! I've been eager to get back to Landmark, Colorado ever since Willow Aster introduced the Landmarks and the town that was named after their ancestors in the Landmark Mountain series starter, Unforgettable. This go-around, we've got a second chance romance featuring Theo Landmark and Sofie Copewell. These two were children when they were first met and quickly became the best of friends. As teenagers, they fell in love and believed forever was theirs. But when they were both eighteen, Sofie left without warning, leaving nothing more than a note telling Theo that she loved him but that she had to go. It took him for what felt like forever to stop looking for her--to no longer wait for her to return to him. Then eight years since she Sofie is back and claims she's there to stay. Theo is beyond shocked, and he isn't exactly welcoming her with open arms, but he also wants answers as to why she left. That doesn't require him risking his heart getting broken again by the only girl he's ever loved. Right?

Okay, I'm the first to admit that I'm not a huge fan of one-half of a couple who makes the decision to end things supposedly because they believe it's what's best for the other person, but there is SO much more to what led to Sofie leaving and why it took so long for her to return. There are hints--and I had my suspicions and they did prove to be true--but I'm not going to get into all that because I think unraveling all the secrets that Sofie was keeping is part and parcel of what makes her story with Theo such a worthwhile one to read. Now, did Theo have a right to feel betrayed and terrible about Sofie leaving without much an explanation? Yes, but once he learned everything, he understood and was quite contrite about the icy reception he gave her. I loved seeing these two rekindle their love and their friendship. Trust was restored, but not easily, and there were still issues that needed to be resolved, and I was simply happy to be there for the journey because Sofie and Theo deserved their hard-fought, overdue happily-ever-after. Five stars for Someday.
