Review: Under the Stars by Laura Pavlov (Cottonwood Cove #2)

Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.

"The reason I don't see what you see when you look up at the sky is because I'm always looking at you. Even with all the stars out at night, I don't want to look anywhere else. Because I have everything I need. Every I want. It's right in front of me."

We're back in Cottonwood Cove with the second book in Laura Pavlov's series by the same name. Under the Stars is a grumpy/sunshine office romance that features sunshiny Georgia Reynolds and and grumptastic Maddox Lancaster. After her disaster of an ex-boyfriend--the very aptly named Dikota Smith--stole her car, holding it hostage in a desperate move to get Georgia to get back together with him, recent college graduate Georgia just wants a fresh start. Snagging the position of personal assistant to the president of Lancaster Press wasn't going to be that simple though, not when gossip around Cottonwood Cove claimed that Maddox Lancaster wasn't easy to please or impress. But it seems that there's something about this hometown girl that has Maddox considering taking her on. It's not her floral-scented résumé nor is it her penchant for being freakishly adept at "unusual sports". Maybe it's her big personality matched with her tenacity and ability to adapt. Georgia's being as gorgeous, intelligent, and quick-witted as she is, however, could play havoc on Maddox's neat, tidy, and controlled world.

The banter was strong with this one! I enjoyed the heck out of Tink and Bossman's story, Tink being Georgia `with the magical fairy dust (aka her overall personality) that made everyone like her and eventually thawed out Maddox's (who is obviously Bossman) overall self. From the moment these two meet to see if they fit as potential employer and employee to their becoming friends and failing miserably at falling for each other, I was enraptured by everything that was happening on the page. Georgia was a peach (get it?) from the get-go, and it was obvious why she was as adored as she was by everyone around here. There's a point in the book where she says Maddox beats out every single book boyfriend, and the guy certainly falls in my top ten. Is he perfect? No, but he loves Georgia wholeheartedly, and seeing his growth throughout had me sighing happily. Under the Stars is my favorite in the Cottonwood Cove series so far. I'm giving it five-plus stars.
