Review: A Very Grumpy Father's Day by Kayley Loring (Very Holiday #4)

Kayley Loring's newest novella in her Very Holiday series brings back the OG couple, Declan Sullivan Cannavale AND Maddie Cooper Cannavale! A Very Grumpy Father's Day finds the grumptastic hubby, daddy, and lawyer that is Dec trying to get some "quality"--aka down and dirty--time with his wife and convincing their ten-month-old daughter, Ciara, that he is, indeed, even more awesome than some red, furry muppet. Try as he might, he seems to be failing miserably. But as many times as he keeps getting knocked down, Dec will keep getting back up again (because nothing, not even a bad hangover, unsexy times on a ferry, or bad costume ideas can keep this hot, cocky, albeit undeniably grumpy, father down).

I have a thing for stories that have us checking in with established couples whose love stories we've already read about. Maddie and Declan were certainly memorable in A Very Bossy Christmas, and seeing how parenthood has affected them was oh-so-satisfying. (And yes, this is a reminder to read that book before reading this new novella so as to fully relish all things Dec and Maddie!) This part of their love story is a reminder that even after you've achieved the proverbial happily-ever-after, aka love and marriage, you still have to work at it, especially after you have kids. I laughed and I le-sighed and nothing could have wiped the smile off my face. I was also left quite curious as to what journey awaits Billy Boston in the next installment of the Very Holiday series. A Very Grumpy Father's Day receives five stars!

Review: The Room Mate by Kendall Ryan (Roommates #1)

I do believe I've found myself a new book boyfriend to drool, erm, swoon over in Cannon Roth, male main character in bestselling author Kendall Ryan's Roommates series starter, The Room Mate . This had a familiar romance trope--falling-for-your-best-friend's-sibling--and yet I didn't find it boring or tiresome in any way. This has both heart and heat as well as lighthearted humor along with a bit of heart-tugging angst and it's headlined by a couple of main characters that I was totally smitten with from the moment Paige got a pretty good idea of just how much her best friend's younger brother Cannon had grown up from the nerdy boy who followed them around like a puppy when they were kids.
