Review: A Promise Ignited by Anissa Garcia (Promise #1.5)

Note: This ARC was provided by Give Me Books Promotions in exchange for an honest review.

Pain seizes me, my throat tightening as I reminisce. I miss the days of the overwhelming high when he looked at me with those deep eyes, saying sexy things to me, groaning how he couldn't wait to be inside me. That urgency to take my body under his, pull off each other's clothes, and have at each other like animals was thing of the past.

I originally read A Promise Ignited when it was originally released as part of the multi-authored Alphas of Sin anthology and posted a review for it late last year. With it's re-release as a separate story and with the additional material Anissa Garcia has included, I decided to read it again. I wasn't all that sure if I was going to put together a new review, so I decided to wait until I was done reading, something I did in less than twenty minutes since it's a very quick read. And now? Well, clearly I'm putting together an all-new review because the scenes and text that the author added have made an already superb read all the more awesome and even more insightful than before.

A loyal husband, an adorable son, a home to call their own. So why does Jamie Caldwell feel as if there's something sorely lacking in her marriage to Dean? Six-year-old Jake is the center of the world, but Jamie wouldn't mind having her husband look at her with the same passion he used to, for them to be engage as a man and woman who are still very much in love with each other. Because there's no denying that Jamie and Dean do love one another. But Jamie wants it to be more than just them working hard for their family, more than just spending time with Jake. One night in a bar, one man, and one hot encounter in a hotel room. But could Jamie live with the consequences?

My having read the story before may have taken away the element of surprise, but this novella was still as steamy the second time around. It also gives you something to consider if you were someone who was in a relationship that needed to have all that promise it once held in the beginning reignited. I knew Anissa Garcia was an author to watch out for with her debut release, A Promise Kept, but when you're able to still give your readers a tale as fantastic and as complete as this one within a far more limited number of pages, then my faith in that author has paid off in spades. And that new ending? Major "awww!" moment right there. Five-plus stars for A Promise Ignited. ♥
