Review: F*ck Boy by Michelle McLoughney (Screwing the Boss #1)

Note: This ARC was provided by the author via Give Me Books Promotions in exchange for an honest review.

F*ck Boy is a quick erotica May-December read from author Michelle McLoughney and is about thirty-five-year-old Ava Hartman and twenty-year-old Ridge Franklin. Ava is married to a man she doesn't love and is indirectly tied to him because of her brother Daniel. Ridge came to work summers on the property the Hartmans own since he was seventeen and has always had a thing for the lady of the house. She, however, doesn't notice him until she sees just how much he's grown over the years. But she's married and a decade and a half older, and then there's the matter of Daniel. Will Ava forever be trapped in a marriage of convenience or find happiness with strapping Ridge?

I wouldn't call this insta-love since both Ava and Ridge have known about each other for at least three years. She never really paid too much attention to him until he was twenty and saw that he was no longer the boy he once was. On the other hand, it appears that Ridge has been lusting over Ava since he was seventeen and those feelings have evolved to more over the years. There actually is a story that goes on here, so it isn't all about the illicit sex that happens between a guy who's entering the third decade of his life and a woman who's wasted too many years on a man who saw Ava as nothing more than his trophy wife who couldn't satisfy him and turned to other women.

The sex is pretty hot, but the romance was lukewarm. The sexual tension was there, which I always appreciate in this genre, but the only real romance came in the form of a twist in the story that I thought was interesting but more of a one-time grand gesture that was supposed to make up for the lack of more romance. That twist basically gives Ava the happily-ever-after that she desperately wants--meaning she gets the boy and keeps her family intact. You'll get it when you read the book. F*ck Boy was a pretty good read. I just wanted a wee bit more romance and character development, but such tends to be wishful thinking with quickie reads. This erotic novella gets 3.5 stars. ♥
