Review: My Silver Lining by Laura Pavlov (Rosewood River #2)

Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.

"I see you, Lulu Sonnet. I see all of you. And I'll take you exactly as you are."

Is it too early for me to declare Rafe my favorite Chadwick? I mean, I know the Rosewood River series is only two books in so far, but Laura Pavlov surprised me in the best way possible--not just when it came to the main characters, but how she took a trope that wasn't necessarily my favorite to read and put an original and creative spin to it. My Silver Lining turned out to be exactly that for me when it came to the fake relationship trope, which I was absolutely not expecting, but I am undoubtedly celebrating it right now.

Rafe Chadwick is a pretty easygoing guy and can roll with the punches, but getting throat punched by his brother's girlfriend's best friend is a whole 'nother thing altogether. That first meeting has definitely earned twenty-eight-year-old Lulubelle Sutton his attention, albeit in a mixed sort of way. She's clearly ruthless, but she's also gorgeous, witty, and determined. So, when the jeweler asks Rafe to pretend to be her boyfriend to mollify her family, he agrees in exchange for her to continue the ruse at his boss's upcoming wedding. Rafe knows Lulu isn't a woman to mess with; Mess around with, however, well, that's totally a different--and tempting--notion...

I had my reservations when it came to both Rafe and Lulu in the first couple of chapters, as well as with the whole fake relationship trope. I went into this book without having read the blurb, so I didn't know much of anything. All that mattered was that it was the next book in the Rosewood River series and that Laura Pavlov was a go-to author for me. That meant I had a great deal of trust in this author, and that trust was rewarded ten-fold. I loved everything about how this story played out, how the relationship between Rafe and Lulu grew and evolved, and how these main characters developed over time. Heck, Pavlov even had me loving the fake relationship trope for the first time ever! (I did wonder about two things, though: was Rafael really Rafe's name, and how old was he?) I give five-plus stars to My Silver Lining
