Review: Bad Idea by Felice Stevens (Brooklyn Kings #1)

Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Gay Romance Reviews.

Bad Idea is the first in a new series from Felice Stevens, but while the series title Brooklyn Kings alludes to the professional football team one of the main characters in this series starter owns, this book is not a football romance, nor is it touted as one. Instead, what we have here is a boss/employee romance, one involving Hayden Porter, a personal assistant who lost his previous job to the new wife of his former boss, and Armand Winters, an amateur horticulturist who inherits the pro football team his late father owned. Both are in their late thirties, and when their paths cross, it was meant to be nothing more than a hook-up. Then Hayden shows up for work at his new job, and it turns out that his new boss is none other than his hook-up--Armi.

The first time I read the blurb, I thought the story was going to be about one guy becoming involved with his seemingly straight married boss. It took me re-reading said blurb for me to finally get what Hayden and Armi's story was going to be about, and overall, it was a good read. The dynamic between the main characters was interesting, with Hayden being the confident and organized personal assistant and Armi being the insecure, fish-out-of-water team owner who would rather be surrounded by his plants and flowers. There's a fair bit of drama involving a secret from Hayden's past, Armi's strained relationship with his late father, and the switch from old to new with the team. While not my favorite read from this author, Bad Idea wasn't all that terrible an idea, and I'm handing it 3.5 stars.
