Review: Finn by Ashley James (The Moore Men #1)

Ashley James is a new-to-me author, and Finn is my introduction to her writing, plus it's the first in The Moore Men series. The series starter is a manny romance set in the small town of Wolf Creek, Texas, with the titular character being Finn Moore, a twenty-eight-year-old single father to a four-year-old son named Tucker who works alongside his father, Gentry, his younger brother, Hollis, and his cousin, August on the family ranch. When his son's nanny informs him that she's moving away with her boyfriend, Finn scrambles to find her replacement. His girlfriend's suggestion that he hire her twin brother gives him pause, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Twenty-four-year-old early childhood educator Ash Tudor is a means to an end, but Finn never expected the two of them to become friends nor did either one mean to share a connection and fall in love.

This was a really good read, one that enjoyed from start to finish. There were definitely grumpy/sunshine feels, with Finn being the grumpy rancher and single dad and Ash the sunshiny manny to little Tucker. This was a slow burn romance, which I'm a sucker for, allowing for a nice build-up between the two main characters rather than an instant sort of thing, not that I have an aversion to insta-love or insta-lust stories, but slow burn is definitely my jam. Aside from the romance, I quite loved seeing Finn's and Ash's bond with Tucker, both apart and together. There was also how Finn's relationships with his family members--his father, his brother, and his cousin--and how they had this closeness and didn't have any sort of drama going on. On the other hand, there was Finn's twin, and I did empathize with her to a certain degree, even though I felt she could have handled things better. All in all, Finn was a four-starred introduction to Ashley James's writing and as the first novel in her The Moore Men series, so I look forward to more.
