Review: Mine for Now by Erika Kelly (Wild Love #1)

Note: This ARC was provided by InkSlinger PR in exchange for an honest review.

Mine for Now is the first novel in the Wild Love series, which is a new adult (NA) series about the three O'Donnell siblings, and is the first Erika Kelly-penned book I've read, although I already have her Rock Star Romance series lurking somewhere on my e-reader. This series starter focuses on Nicole O'Donnell and Dylan McCaffrey, two incoming college freshmen who share similar tales of childhoods clouded by too many memories of their addiction-laden mothers, who were too busy feeding their addictions to be bothered taking care of their children. While Nicole has taken steps to move forward with her life and pursue her dreams, Dylan is constantly pulled back by his mother and an ex-girlfriend. When Nicole and Dylan meet, they try to keep the simmering attraction to one another buried deep, neither one needing the distraction. But the more time they spend together, the more difficult it becomes to pretend that they're nothing more than friends. Can Dylan lay claim on the girl he's falling for or will his reality take her away?

This coming-of-age novel brings with it a lot of angst. There's a bit of humor to try and temper the drama that goes on with and between the main characters as individuals and a couple. Both Nicole and Dylan are essentially good people. Nicole is very dedicated to whatever she puts her mind to and loves her father and brothers. She doesn't want to be saddled by her past more than it already has before. On the other hand, Dylan has the whole co-dependency thing going on with his mother. The guy blows hot and cold when it comes to Nicole and with me not being as patient as Nicole was, I found myself rather frustrated with him. My heart broke for both of them, but it was clear that they chose to handle their all too similar situations in very different ways, which leads to discoveries made and lessons learned on both ends. They evolve throughout the story and show that the choice between yourself and someone you care about is probably the most difficult one you can make. I look forward to the next book! 4.5 stars for Mine for Now. ♥
