Review: Can't Hide Fom Me by Cordelia Kingsbridge

Can't Hide From Me is a mystery suspense thriller standalone from author Cordelia Kingsbridge and is the story of two agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives who were once secretly involved with each other personally and find themselves working together two years after the far from amicable end to their non-relationship. When Charles Hunter and his team are sent to extract a fellow agent whose identity is unknown to them, the last person he expects to see is his ex. Ángel Medina is, indeed, the undercover ATF agent that needs to be rescued, but if the ex-lovers thought that their interaction would end after Ángel's delivery to the people in charge, they have another thing coming. Ángel's handler is missing and soon enough, Ángel begins to receive taunting messages from a stalker, one who's making it very clear that they know every move Ángel makes. Charles intends to keep Ángel safe from the stalker, but will they both be safe from the feelings threatening to engulf them?

I quite enjoyed this novel! Admittedly, I figured out who the stalker was early on--it really wasn't that difficult and the clues pretty much pointed to that person from the get-go--but I still was all in, wanting to see how Charles, Ángel, and the team would solve the case. Of course, aside from the mystery, Charles and Ángel's relationship was the most intriguing thing in the story. These two pushed each other's buttons, almost as if all the bickering and squabbling was a form of foreplay for them. I guessed why Ángel did what he did two years ago, and I get why he did it, but I also agree with Charles in that there could have been some other way that they could have settled the matter. I did, however, like the passive-aggressiveness of their relationship, and that's exactly what they had--a relationship, no matter how much Charles wanted to deny it. Another plus was that this wasn't your typical Lethal Weapon-style story; Charles and Ángel received a great deal of help from their team. An all-around good read, Can't Hide From Me gets 4.5 stars. ♥
