Review: Whisper Sweet Nothings by Laura Pavlov (Rosewood River #6)
Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.
Time, indeed, flies when you're having fun, and I had a blast seeing each of the Chadwick men fall in love via Laura Pavlov's Rosewood River series. With the sixth book's release, the series wraps up, and while it's bittersweet, as is often the case with a beloved series, Pavlov certainly ends things on a high note. Whisper Sweet Nothings is Archer Chadwick's story, and this single father's world revolves primarily around his precocious five-year-old daughter, Melody. As much help as he gets from his family, the thirty-four-year-old commercial broker knows having a live-in nanny could be life-changing, especially with his brokerage business picking up. That's where Winnie Smith comes in. She's twenty-four, recently divorced, and starting over in Rosewood River. She quickly proves herself to be indispensable, forging a close-knit bond with Melody and going above and beyond. Being a nanny also allows her time to work on her writing. But living in close proximity to each other comes with complications, all thanks to the mutual attraction between Archer and Winnie. Agreeing to live in the moment and acting on it was meant to be temporary, but neither one anticipated what would happen when falling in love became an inevitability...
Archer and Winnie's romance had everything I could have hoped for as a series ender. From some of my go-to tropes--single parent, age gap, and of course, small town--to main characters whose relationship truly evolved from strangers to employer/employee to friends to lovers to more, unfolding in Laura Pavlov's style of storytelling that consistently evokes warmth and comfort amidst the swoon of it all. I also need to point out that Melody was the precious little scene stealer I knew she was going to be, bringing to mind how Cutler Heart, aka Beefcake, was throughout the Magnolia Falls series. Speaking of Cutler, can I just say that I was thrilled to learn that his book is kicking off Pavlov's upcoming new small-town romance series?! Gah! But more on that when it releases in a few months. For now, I'm going to bask in the awesomeness of Whisper Sweet Nothings, and how it surpassed my lofty expectations. I appreciated how any hiccups in Archer and Winnie's relationship were resolved with good, ol' communication and that the Chadwicks nicely balanced the teasing with togetherness. I honestly couldn't have asked for much more as the Rosewood River series comes to a close. This lovely read gets five stars.
