Review: Owning Jett by Lucy Lennox (Made Marian Legacy #3)
Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.
Owning Jett is the third novel in the Made Marian Legacy series, and this go-around, Lucy Lennox adds a healthy dose of intrigue to the romance between Jett Marian and Locke Maris. The first time these two meet, Jett recognizes the shipping magnate, even though thirty-year-old Locke hasn't been at the helm of Maris Holdings all that long. On the other hand, Locke tries to feign disinterest in the exotic dancer who introduces himself as Jethro Davis, which turns out to be quite a feat considering the lap dance being given to him by the twenty-three-year-old turned out to be rather...illuminating. So, four years after, Locke makes an offer that Jett knows he should refuse: fly with him to Italy, be his assistant during the day, and explore their intense attraction at night. Guests will be arriving, but they aren't there just to bask in everything the Mediterranean has to offer. An interesting motley crew of notable figures are playing a chess-like game called Paxis, and Locke is at the head. Jett wonders if there's more to the game than meets the eye. Both men are keeping secrets, and if the truth gets out, there are real consequences.
This was a highly entertaining read! Jett and Locke were two people who couldn't really afford any distractions, what with them both being as dedicated as they were to their respective jobs. Obviously, neither one was prepared for the unexpected, i.e. meeting each other. While it took a few years before they actually had a longer period of time to simply be in the same space and see what their connection had to offer, there was definitely something worth exploring. Weird as it may sound, I actually liked that there were moments of frustration and missteps while they were in Italy. To me, it felt more realistic, especially because they weren't as open and honest with each other, what with Jett keeping his work as an undercover agent for Ecumene Stability Project (ESP) under wraps and Locke not immediately divulging why Paxis was as important as it was. And when everything fell into place for these two, it was oh-so-satisfying. I love a well-earned happily-ever-after, and Jett and Locke certainly made their way to that HEA, with a journey that was actually romantic and action-filled. Owning Jett easily deserves five of five stars.
