Review: Chasing Forever by Piper Rayne (Plain Daisy Ranch #4)
Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Piper Rayne.
With all three Noughton sons getting their happily-ever-afters--I'm still holding out hope that their father, Bruce, gets his chance at love once again--the writing duo that is Piper Rayne focuses their attention to another set of siblings, the Owenses! Lottie, Bennett, and Romy are the children of Brad and Darla, and yes, they're the cousins of Ben, Jude, and Emmett Noughton. Lottie kicks things off for her side of the family with Chasing Forever, the fourth book in the Plain Daisy Ranch, and a woke-up-married romance with the one person she should never have even considered exchanging vows, drunken ones at that, with--her ex-fiance's younger brother, Brooks Watson.
At nineteen, Lottie Owens was a jilted bride and the easygoing and carefree girl everyone knew was changed forever. More than a decade and a half later, Lottie is living a good life--she has The Harvest Depot, her pottery, and a family that loves her unconditionally. Walking down the aisle and taking some man's last name is no longer on her bucket list. But one drunken night leads to her doing exactly that; to make matters worse, her new husband is none other than Brooks Watson, Willowbrook's sheriff, a year younger than her at thirty-four, and her cousin Ben's best friend. Oh, and he also happens to be her runaway groom's brother. The easiest solution is an annulment, but Brooks intends to win Lottie's cautious heart over the span of four dates.
Ooh, this was so much more than I expected it to be! Falling for the girl your brother is engaged to is one thing, marrying her in Vegas and only agreeing to an annulment if his reluctant wife said yes to four dates--negotiated down from seven--in hopes of her falling for him is a whole 'nother thing altogether. But goodness, who wouldn't fall for someone like Brooks? He was patient, understanding, and devoted, and resistance was going to prove futile for Lottie, try as she might to not fall for her husband. I loved these two together, and I applauded how darn supportive her family was. Now, when it came to Brooks's family, well, suffice it to say that fate was on Lottie's side when Brooks's brother jilted her. There's a lot to love about Chasing Forever, which is why there's zero hesitation on my five-star rating.
