Review: The Bounty by Layla Reyne (Redemption Inc. #0.5)

Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.

The Bounty is the second prequel novella in the Redemption Inc. series from Layla Reyne. While The Accidental, the first prequel novella in the series, was an F/F romantic suspense story, this new book is an M/M quickie read. You don't need to read one in order to enjoy the other, with both novellas working quite well as standalones. If you're a longtime reader of Reyne's, there are a number of cameos from beloved characters from her past work.

When Thomas Wagner accepted Redemption Inc.'s offer to go after a bounty, the second to the last thing he expected was that it would lead him back to Austria. The very last thing the former inspector ever thought would happen was for him to be as distracted as he was by Blaine Anthony. The hacker extraordinaire is good at what he does, and he's even better at getting what he wants--and what Blaine really wants is his late mother's diary and Wags.

This may have been a short read, but it was pretty mighty, packed with the sort of tension, both in terms of the romance and the suspense, that I've come to expect with Layla Reyne's books. Wags and Blaine were certainly an interesting pair, and while novellas tend to make me wish for more, there was enough proverbial meat on the bone here that left me quite satisfied with the story and the happy-for-now ending. The Bounty receives four stars.
