Review: Mr. Charming by Piper Rayne (The Nest #4)
Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Valentine PR.
Mr. Charming is the fourth and final book in writing duo Piper Rayne's The Nest series, and it's one that ties a loose end of sorts from way back in their Hockey Hotties series--Tweetie Sorenson and Tedi Douglas. While you don't necessarily need to read the aforementioned series that was published in 2021 and 2022, those who are familiar with it will remember how happy Tweetie and Tedi were, and how things turned out for them once Tweetie was traded from Florida to Nashville and Tedi didn't make the move with him. Now here we are, nearly two years since that series ended, and Tweetie and Tedi finally find themselves in the same city, working together, and maybe with a second shot--if only they'd take it.
It's been three years since Tedi Douglas last saw the man who once owned her heart only to go on to break it--and she probably broke Tweetie Sorenson's heart when she chose to stay in Florida after he was traded to Nashville. She knew there was a remote possibility their paths would cross, what with her working for the league, but being tasked to head the flailing social media campaign for the Chicago Falcons--the very team that her ex plays for--is a test she refuses to fail, both personally and professionally. All Tedi needs to do is ensure that she keeps Tweetie at arm's length, and what better way to do that than to pretend she's got a hot, younger athlete as her boyfriend? But she may have underestimated just how much of a pull Tweetie has. He's ready to charm and win Tedi over once again.
Ummm, I feel the need to apologize to Reed, Henry, and Conor because this needs to be said: Tweetie is my favorite male main character in the series. There were all these little somethings that just made Tweetie take that title from Henry (sorry again, Henry!). Yep, the guy lived up to his name and charmed the heck out of it. That being said, Tedi certainly gave him a run for his money, and I'm glad that she didn't give in easily. Their past was complicated, and if we're being honest here, they broke each other's hearts with how everything played out. While the whole fake boyfriend thing was a move of desperation, I appreciated how Tedi and Tweetie navigated their way through their chance to get things right. The cameos of the couples from the Hockey Hotties series were a great way to tie everything together, and while I'm going to miss The Nest series, Mr. Charming, which gets five stars, was such a fitting end to it.
