Review: Just a Little Crush by Carly Phillips & Erika Wilde (Sterling Family Crossover #1)

Just a Little Crush is the first book in the Sterling Family Crossover series from the writing duo of Carly Phillips and Erika Wilde. Stevie Palmer, an intern at Dare PR who also works as a server at The Back Door, and Caleb Kane, who comes from money and has made even more of it as a real estate mogul, were supposed to have one night together, with neither one looking for anything past that. But when his ex-wife shows up unannounced with their six-year-old son, Owen, Caleb finds himself claiming that he and Stevie are in a committed relationship. In order to thwart his ex's attempts to gain full custody of Owen, Caleb offers Stevie a deal: pretend to be his fiancée for a couple of months in exchange for fifty thousand dollars. It was a straightforward arrangement...until falling in love complicated everything.
When it comes to fake relationship romances, it's pretty much expected that love makes it all very real, and that was the case with Stevie and Caleb. Of course, it's what leads the fake to become real that sets the good reads from the run-of-the-mill ones. What I liked about this story was that neither Stevie nor Caleb were pining for each other--lusting, yes, but not imagining a white picket fence and kids running about--before they hooked up. Stevie's hesitation when Caleb broached the idea of them pretending to be a couple in a serious relationship made it somewhat clear that she was as good with the one-night stand and not looking for the fairy tale with him. So, my interest was definitely piqued, waiting to see how things would develop between them. Just a Little Crush held my attention from start to finish, and it was a good start to the Sterling Family Crossover series. It gets four stars.
