Review: His Princess by Alexa Riley (Princess #1)

Note: This ARC was provided by the author via Ardent PRose in exchange for an honest review.

Awww! I think I've found my new favorite Alexa Riley-penned novella to date! His Princess is the first in the author's new series, Princess, each of which can be read as a standalone while still being loosely interconnected. This series starter is about Princess Alena and King Roman. Royal marriages often feel more like business transactions than they do romantic encounters. In the case of Roman and Alena, his choice of the woman who would be his queen was a surprising one since the expected pick would have been Alena's older sister Tabitha. But all it took was one look at Alena's photograph and Roman knew she would be his bride and the mother of his heirs. But while Roman is sure about his intentions, Alena is wary. All she knows about him is that he seems more warrior than king and what's been reported in the press. Can this beauty tame her beastly man and live happily ever after?

Alpha male? Check. Virgin female? Check. Nearly insta-everything? Check! But, this book had a bit of a different feel to it. Alena isn't some meek girl who flutters her eyelashes at Roman. She's got some fire to her, something that I like since books like this have a tendency to make the heroine too docile. Roman was a pleasant surprise as well. Yes, he's broody and harsh, but there's a different side to him that comes out to play whenever he's around his bride-to-be. The true bonus to this dirty fairy tale was the side story of Tabby and Vlad, Alena's sister and Roman's royal guard and best friend, respectively. Those two were the more lighthearted pairing and I like how they were like they foil to Alena and Roman. All in all, this was a super quick but really entertaining read, one that was sweet, sexy, and everything Alexa Riley. His Princess gets five stars and books two and three are on my TBR list. ♥
