Review: Shamed by Chelsea Camaron & Ryan Michele (Ruthless Rebels MC #1)

Shamed is the first novella in the Ruthless Rebels MC series co-written by MC romance veterans and reader favorites Chelsea Camaron and Ryan Michele. It's a second chance love story between twenty-nine-year-old Dixon James Cartwright, now known as DJ and a patched member of the Ruthless Rebels motorcycle club, and twenty-seven-year-old Kenderly Marie Hanson, nicknamed Kenie by Dixon and working at a gas station. DJ and Kenderly had made plans for their future together, until DJ chose the club over the girl he loved. That was eight years ago. They may still live in the same town and DJ and his brothers may go pump gas at the station Kenderly works at, but the two avoid each other as much as possible. That is, until trouble came Kenderly's way and it's DJ that steps in to rescue her. Dixon wants another chance, but could Kenderly give it if she's never forgotten the pain he caused her?
This was a fairly quick read and the pacing was at a pretty fast clip. When I found out the back story regarding Dixon and Kenderly's breakup, it was pretty clear that these two had communication issues when they were younger. Eight years later, though, they were still lacking communication AND trust, though the latter stems more over the fact that Dixon has clearly not lived the life of a monk. Even with the fast pace of the story and the novella-length of the book, I didn't feel like I was missing much in terms of story or character development. Readers also get a glimpse of how this particular MC works and which brothers are closest to one another. The additional side stories regarding their respective parents was interesting and helped give a better understanding of the kind of people DJ and Kenderly have become. Overall, Shamed was a good, four-starred start to this MC series. ♥
