Review: Scorned by Chelsea Camaron & Ryan Michele (Ruthless Rebels MC #2)

Scorned is the second novella in the Chelsea Camaron and Ryan Michele-co-written MC romance series entitled Ruthless Rebels MC and it turns the spotlight on Austin Fletcher, better known as Shamus in the Ruthless Rebels motorcycle club and best friend to Dixon James "DJ" Cartwright, whose own story with Kenderly Hanson was told in the series starter, Shamed. Shamus's story is also a second chance romance, one he shares with twenty-eight-year-old journalist Andrea Davies. These two may have harbored deeper feelings than they were able to admit a decade ago, but seeing each other now stirs feelings of hurt and animosity. When Drea upped and left Shamus behind, he believed it was due to her ambition and his not having any place in her future, not someone like him from the wrong side of the tracks. Drea's return is unexpected; Austin's need for her, however? Well, not so much.

While this second in a series may have shared the same trope as its predecessor--as does the third one--I can safely say that the finer details of this couple's story are different from those of the two other couples, allowing it to stand on its own merits. Drea's reason for returning to their hometown added to the angst of the story and these two certainly needed to learn to communicate better as well--which appears to be something of a theme in the series. This had more suspense than the first novella and there was a bit of a twist added to it as well, one that I definitely didn't see coming. With each new story that I read in this series, the more interested I find myself becoming in the MC as a whole and in particular members who pique my curiosity. As always, Camaron and Michele don't allow the novella-length hamper their ability to create a well-written tale. Four stars go to Scorned. ♥
