Review: Runaway Rock Star by C.J. Anthony

Note: This ARC was provided by Dreamspinner Press in exchange for an honest review.

Runaway Rock Star is a novella from C.J. Anthony and is part of the States of Love collection from Dreamspinner Press. Here we have Brandon Harris, an assistant at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland, Ohio, and Lucas Black, a British pop star visiting the museum for a private tour. Brandon doesn't think much of Lucas's bubble gum pop songs or reputation for being a brat. But there appears to be more to Lucas than meets the eye and when Brandon's dragged into an impromptu road trip in and around Ohio by the jaded singer and songwriter, Brandon discovers the more private side to Lucas. Over the next few days, Brandon helps Lucas create memories he would never have had the opportunity to experience had he remained within the confines set by his father and manager. The underlying attraction between them is too strong, but will it even last beyond Lucas's days as a runaway star?

This was a really sweet and cute story between two young men who aren't as unlikely a couple as you may think. Brandon and Lucas were adorable and while they didn't have the greatest of starts thanks to Lucas's sullenness and abrasive attitude during the museum tour, once they realized that they could actually trust one another, it was clear that what these two had was more than a passing thing. There was tension, both the good and not-so-good kind, and it helped to make the development of their relationship from strangers to lovers more interesting to read. Does the story seem realistic? Not really, but then I consider rock star romances fun reads that are supposed to give you a break from reality. The idea of someone famous falling for a regular person is a nice escape for a romance reader as voracious as me. Low on angst, high on cuteness, Runaway Rock Star was a four-starred read. ♥
