Review: Enemies Like You by Annika Martin & Joanna Chambers (Enemies with Benefits #1)

Note: This ARC was provided by the authors via L. Woods PR in exchange for an honest review.

Enemies Like You is the full-length novel co-written by Annika Martin and Joanna Chambers. I got my first taste of main characters Will and Kit (who were so much hotter than Will and Kate, people) in the free prequel novella, Enemies with Benefits, and that one taste left me craving more of these two. For those who never got to read that novella, it just happens to be the first eight chapters of this novel; of course, if you're like me and have already been introduced into the dark and deadly deliciousness that are Will and Kit, you can skip on straight to the ninth chapter (which is what I did, thanks to the note at the beginning of the story). Either way, this was a book that combined soul-shattering sex and surprising love and the much-expected suspense and mystery into a highly intriguing and story, and it was presented to all readers with spot-on writing and through two addictive characters.

Will and Kit have their eyes set on one man, but while Will is intent on getting his revenge on the man he believes led to the deaths of twelve of his men, Kit is tasked to protect the very same man at all costs. But all it takes is one seemingly fated meeting between these two men trained to kill and defend whenever necessary. The pull is unlike any other they've experienced before, but while there's no denying the draw to one another, the fact that they appear to be on opposite ends should be enough to douse whatever fire continues to burn between them. But maybe their ultimate goal isn't as different as one would think. The secrets that Kit is keeping could be exactly what Will needs in order to have some clarity as to whether the man he can't help but crave is truly an enemy or perhaps, an ally in disguise. They'll need answers very soon or risk end up being in the crosshairs of a common foe.

I loved how intense this novel was! Every single moment Will and Kit were within each other's being, it was as if there was this energy thrumming right beneath the surface, refusing to be tamped down by logic and reason. I wouldn't necessarily classify what was happening between them as romantic but hell, I'll take it anyway because underneath all that heat was heart as Will and Kit tried to come to grips with their confusing emotions. As far as the mystery is concerned as to who were the bad guys and who weren't, I had pretty much guessed--and correctly, at that!--one person, but suffice it to say that Annika Martin and Joanna Chambers still managed to one-up me with a twist I didn't realize was coming until very late in the game. Will and Kit surprised me--Will with his quiet tenacity and Kit with his back story--and I fell for these two even further. Enemies Like You is a five-starred favorite. ♥
