Review: Valentine for Hire by Aria Cole

Note: This ARC was provided by the author via Ardent PRose in exchange for an honest review.

Valentine for Hire is the latest quick read from Aria Cole and it’s about Bryn Stafford, who decides to find herself a date for her sister’s wedding courtesy of an escort service, Elite Fling. She’s never done anything like this before, but she refuses to be belittled yet again by her sister and to have to be constantly badgered by her mother about her personal life. But her date isn’t the usual kind of escort Elite Fling employs. Actually, he isn’t employed by the company at all because Brodie Merrick’s only tie to the company is the fact that his brother owns it. Even after offers from his brother to work for him, Brodie’s resisted, thinking of Elite Fling as somewhat “immoral”, but with one look at Bryn, he asks his brother for one thing and one thing only: to be Bryn’s “escort”.

I didn’t like this one as much as I have Aria Cole’s more recent releases. There wasn’t much of a connection that I felt with either of the characters, especially Brodie, who was suddenly all alpha male, even though there was never any hint that he had that kind of personality. He became this controlling, dirty-mouthed, fake escort but he didn’t really do it for me. I also found it funny that he considered that his brother’s business was less than palatable in his eyes, yet took full advantage to satisfy his own libido with just one look at Bryn. There was a twist to this story that proved to be the one and only highlight, but nothing much really came of it, and I felt like it was a wasted opportunity for something more substantial. I’m giving Valentine for Hire three stars. ♥
