Review: Terrible Twos by Megs Pritchard

Note: This ARC was provided by the author via Enticing Journey Book Promotions in exchange for an honest review.

I’ve been trying to wrack my brain thinking if Terrible Twos is my first ever Megs Pritchard read. In any case, it is the first one I’m reviewing, and it’s an M/M romance novella about Zach Walton, who is starting a new job but has a boss who seems to have it out for him, John Holmes. John always seems to be right there when Zach makes even the most minute of mistakes, and he doesn’t hesitate to call Zach’s attention. With all the pressure he’s facing professionally, Zach’s personal life spins out of control when his beloved sister and brother-in-law are killed in a car accident, leaving just two survivors—their young children, to whom Zach has been named legal guardian. Demands on his time are leaving Zach frazzled, and when John pushes one time too many, Zach lets weeks of anger and frustration get to him, giving his boss a piece of his mind. Instead of getting fired, could this be the turning point that changes Zach’s stressful life from terrible to terrific?

The synopsis for this novella informs readers that Zach becomes the guardian to his two nephews after the deaths of their parents, but it takes a good long while before we even get to the point. Instead we’re “treated” to Zach’s work life and his dealings with his co-workers and how his boss John seems to have a personal dislike for him. I had a feeling about why John was being such a jerk to Zach, but his treatment of Zach could have been a reason for Zach to file some sort of complaint with HR instead of him being this constant target. Now, as far as the romance was concerned, that didn’t really happen either until later in the story, so this was really more about Zach and his life as a twentysomething trying to make something of himself before he’s saddled with more responsibility and then begins a relationship with his boss. Terrible Twos—whose misspelling on the cover bothered me—was okay, but nowadays, I want more than okay. 2.5 stars. ♥
