Review: Scars and Tats by Kristi Pelton

Scars and Tats is the story of Mela McKinley, a woman who thought she had everything she could ever want or need until she lost her beloved husband and was then left with no other alternative but to get as far away as she could from her in-laws in order to protect her son with the help of her twin sister Ali, her sister's boyfriend, Rock, and the motorcycle club Rock belongs to. Four years later and Mela has continued to keep her son Beck safe in the mountains of Colorado, but when a stranger stumbles upon her property, she's both wary and concerned. The man clearly needs her help, but she'd be foolish to trust this person, especially once she learns that Jackson Winslow is a United States Attorney. In close quarters and with a winter storm bearing down on them, Mela and Jackson grow closer, but Jackson has secrets that could end up costing Mela everything she's worked for and ultimately, her son.

This was my first ever Kristi Pelton read and I liked the story, with its air of suspense and romance. Mela and Jackson were obviously keeping secrets from each other but you know that with them being in the cabin with nowhere else to go that they would develop feelings for one another. The story itself flowed pretty well and the cast of characters certainly had my attention--to the point that I'm hoping that Ari and Rock end up getting their own story told because they were so involved in Mela and Jackson's tale that you couldn't help but be curious about them. There were several editing issues but since this was an advanced copy, I sincerely hope those were corrected prior to the book being published. But from a story and character standpoint, Scars and Tats had enough going for it to keep me interested and I certainly wouldn't mind reading more from the author. This gets 3.5 stars. ♥

Review: The Room Mate by Kendall Ryan (Roommates #1)

I do believe I've found myself a new book boyfriend to drool, erm, swoon over in Cannon Roth, male main character in bestselling author Kendall Ryan's Roommates series starter, The Room Mate . This had a familiar romance trope--falling-for-your-best-friend's-sibling--and yet I didn't find it boring or tiresome in any way. This has both heart and heat as well as lighthearted humor along with a bit of heart-tugging angst and it's headlined by a couple of main characters that I was totally smitten with from the moment Paige got a pretty good idea of just how much her best friend's younger brother Cannon had grown up from the nerdy boy who followed them around like a puppy when they were kids.
