Review: In the Moment by Alison G. Bailey

Note: This ARC was provided by the author via IndieSage PR in exchange for an honest review.

Written by Alison G. Bailey, In the Moment is my second read from her and it was originally released as part of the multi-authored Hot for Teacher anthology late last year and is now being re-released as a separate novella. Fair warning though: if you go into this thinking it's your typical teacher-student romance, check your expectations at the door. The synopsis that accompanied this didn't give me an inkling of just how different this was from whatever I thought it was going to be. This was way better than I could have hoped for and one which I thoroughly enjoyed.

All it takes is one moment to change forty-year-old Cadence Fletcher's life in a way that she could never have imagined. But she's hesitant and wary about pursuing anything with Luken Schaffer. Not only is his fifteen years her junior, but he also has no idea what she's been through and thinks that he could have any woman he wants, so why choose to go after her? What Cadence initially fails to understand is that Luken does know exactly what he wants, and that's her. But will the unknown put an abrupt stop to what may very well be a love meant for forever?

I'm not going to give away too many details in this review. Well, other than the fact that Cadence is fifteen years older than Luken. The whole teacher-student thing is just a small component in a beautiful love story between two people who weren't exactly looking to fall in love with their soul mate and wind up doing exactly that. They face challenges and you saw how I mentioned the "unknown" in the above paragraph? Well, it's difficult to prepare for something like that, and that could very well be the biggest hurdle that Cadence and Luken are forced to confront.

May I just say that I love Luken as much as I did Noah Stewart from Present Perfect, which is my only other Alison G. Bailey read. I swear, this two guys aren't just swoon-worthy, but they're honest-to-goodness the epitomes of the kind of guy you want to spend the rest of your life with. Le sigh. But Cadence is no slouch either! She was a great heroine, and both she and Luken chose to not just live in the moment, but to live with intention and to do so together. In the Moment was the kind of inspiring and heartwarming read I needed this chilly February. Four stars. ♥
