Review: Secret Haven by Catherine Cowles (Sparrow Falls #6)
Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.
"You're my person. The spark in the shadows. You carried me through when I didn't think I'd survive. So, I'm never going to stop demanding that this world give you everything."
Secret Haven is the sixth and final (sniffle) novel in the thoroughly endearing and entertaining Sparrow Falls series from bestselling author Catherine Cowles. This book has been on my not-so-secret most anticipated reads list for 2025, and the anticipation for it only grew with every other one that was published previously. Ever since I noted the initial interaction between foster siblings Fallon Colson and Kyler Blackwood was, there was this curious niggle, one that persisted and grew as the series continued. And now, here we are, with the story of a couple that I had expected, but with the inclusion of what turned out to be a rather surprising trope, all resulting in a series ender that surpassed my expectations.
When he was sixteen, Kyler Blackwood was in desperate need of a home--a family--that would take him in. He found that with the Colsons, and fourteen years later, his gratitude and loyalty knew no bounds. It cost him, however, the one person who meant the world to him--his Sparrow, Fallon Colson. At fourteen, she became his North Star, but now, he forces himself to treat her like the foster sister that she's been for fourteen years--even though she will always be more. Then she delivers life-changing news, the kind that leads them to make choices that will test their resolve. Fallon and Kye may never have considered the possibility of them getting their happily-ever-after, but it seems that there are those who will stop at nothing to making sure Fal and Kye get exactly what they believe these two deserve--regret and misery.
I don't want to spoil this book for anyone who has yet to read it, especially given that the blurb doesn't give specifics as to the direction the story took, so I'm going to try my best to behave myself in this part of my review. Suffice it to say that there were a lot of things that I did not see coming, but homaygad, that's what made this even better than I hoped it would be. Fallon and Kye's history was heartrending, but through it all, their bond was unbreakable, and if any two people deserved to live out their HEA, it would be them. Catherine Cowles delivered an amazing end to Sparrow Falls. Five-plus stars for Secret Haven.
