Review: Catch and Release by Tracy Solheim (Milwaukee Growlers #3)

The Milwaukee Growlers series was my introduction to Tracy Solheim's writing, and I must say that I was happily satisfied throughout. Catch and Release is the third--and what feels like the final--book in the series, and it's the much awaited one with Trey Van Horn as the male main character. The thirty-year-old quarterback and team captain always came off as unflappable, but he meets his match in twenty-eight-year-old London Headley, a public relations and advertising specialist in a small yet successful firm in Milwaukee. Theirs was a second chance, slow burn romance, what with the two having fallen for each other a decade ago, until fear got in the way and Trey ended up breaking London's heart. I couldn't wait to see how Trey, who was the last man standing among his close-knit friend group, was going to get to his HEA, especially considering how anti-marriage and anti-love Trey seemed to be in the first two books.
There was a whole lot of tension from the moment Trey and London crossed paths again, and when we get bits and pieces of what their history was like, it was easy to understand why London was so hurt by his ghosting her and why Trey reacted the way he did all those years ago. I liked the push and pull between these two, although I confess that there were moments where I just felt like shaking them so they would see sense. This was also a story about family, both found and the one you're born into, and how the words and actions (or lack thereof) of the generations that came before us can have such a lasting impact on us while we're growing up. The epilogue brought such a poignant yet sweet end to Trey and London's book. Overall, Catch and Release was a four-starred read, and here's hoping for maybe some hockey romance coming from the author. Or hey, I'm good with more football romance too!
