Review: Something Like Lust by Piper Rayne (Chicago Grizzlies #2)

Oh, how the mighty have fallen! I've been looking forward to reading Damon Siska's book ever since he shared a particularly intriguing tidbit with Miles Cavanaugh in Something Like Hate. In Something Like Lust, Damon learns that the woman he shared a one-night stand with six months ago is pregnant. He's shocked, but Adeline Morgan doesn't seem to be the kind of person who got pregnant on purpose simply because of who Damon is. Sure, the twenty-nine-year-old is the wide receiver for the Chicago Grizzlies, and his family is wealthy beyond belief, but middle school teacher Adeline is no gold digger nor is she an attention seeker. She loves the small town she lives and works in. Now, they agree to be co-parents...and housemates, at least while Damon is on break from football. They get to know each other better and are actually becoming friends. And that's all they can ever be because Damon doesn't do love and relationships, and Adeline deserves far more than he can give. But no one ever said anything about lust...

As much as Damon has a well-founded reputation for being a good-time guy, he certainly was not shallow. There was more to him than being a player on and off the field. I think he needed someone like Adeline in his life--a woman who, as attracted as she may have been with Damon, was independent and challenged him. There was undeniable chemistry between the two, but lust doesn't always lead to love, and I'm glad that there was no mad rush for them to go from one to the other. After all, there was their baby to consider, as well as greater sense of responsibility and better stability for them as parents and friends. There was a lot of humor, but there were also slightly heavier moments, especially when it came to Damon's family and the general public who were fans of the team and Damon. I loved that these two were such strong main characters who also had vulnerability to them, and that something like lust could develop into love when nurtured and grow into more when trusted. 4.5 stars go to Something Like Lust.
